How It's Done
The engineering drawings to be
archived are assembled and forwarded to DART. Each drawing is
assigned a unique identifying reference number. This number is the
image file name (see above screen shot). Each drawing is scanned at
200 dpi (normally, sometimes higher) and the relevant information
about the drawing is entered into a database. For example the drawing
type, date etc. A thumbnail image (reduced size and resolution) image
of the drawing is created and inserted into the drawing database for
visual reference purposes (see above screen shot).
The full size scanned image is indexed to the
main database to permit it to be printed or viewed full screen with
the click of a mouse. The interface was developed using MS Access to
ensure standardization with existing client software and internal
skill sets. Don't fret, the interface is easy to learn in just a few
minutes and printing is a snap.
